Dome switch, also known as metal dome, are miniature electronic components made from ultra-thin stainless steel (typically SUS301 or SUS304) with a thickness of just 0.05–0.1 mm. They have gradually expanded into high-end fields such as the automotive, medical, industrial, smart home, and even aerospace and defense sectors.

A component known as the “acrylic membrane switch” is quietly becoming the “face” of everything from smart home appliances to precision industrial control equipment. What has made it stand out? The answer lies in striking a balance between “aesthetics” and “durability”—two seemingly conflicting requirements.

Hongmao’s mainstream panel and circuit substrate materials are primarily polyester (PET) and polycarbonate (PC). Thanks to its excellent chemical resistance, outstanding resistance to flexural fatigue, and dimensional stability, PET has become the preferred choice for circuit layers.

Material selection forms the foundation: premium PET substrates offer superior bend resistance compared to standard PC, while high-purity silver paste delivers more stable contact resistance than carbon paste. Regarding structural design, rational keyform and travel design minimise stress concentration, thereby extending service life.

Metal domes are thin elastic components manufactured from materials such as stainless steel grades 301 or 304, beryllium bronze, or phosphor bronze, with thicknesses ranging from 0.05mm to 0.1mm. These components find extensive application in membrane switches, contact switches, printed circuit boards (PCBs), flexible printed circuit (FPC) boards, as well as within medical devices, automotive electronics, and industrial automation equipment.

Membrane switches are selected according to the operating environment and durability requirements, finding widespread application in sectors such as domestic appliances, medical equipment, and industrial machinery.
