LED Equipment Keypad Membrane Switch

LED illuminated membrane switches represent a modern human-machine interface (HMI) that integrates membrane switch technology with LED backlighting. They transcend the traditional notion of a mere “switch”, functioning instead as comprehensive functional modules that incorporate keypads, circuitry, indicators, and light sources. When a finger presses the switch, the circuitry in the upper film layer makes contact with the corresponding circuit points in the lower layer under pressure, thereby conducting an electrical signal. Simultaneously, the integrated LED illumination illuminates, causing the characters or patterns on the keypad to glow distinctly.

Features of LED Membrane Switches

LED membrane switches are products integrating LED indicator lights with membrane switch technology, exhibiting the following characteristics:

‌Excellent Sealing Performance: Employing an integral sealed structure, LED membrane switches effectively shield against external environmental interference, preventing corrosion and oxidation while also blocking dust ingress. This renders them suitable for diverse harsh environments.

Compact and lightweight: The design is exceptionally compact, featuring a small footprint and light weight for easy portability and installation. Multiple keys can be integrated within limited space to meet diverse equipment requirements.

‌Extended Lifespan: Exhibiting high thermal resistance and flexural strength, these switches maintain functionality for over three years. Reverse-printed patterns ensure long-term durability without degradation.

‌Superior Tactile Feedback: Different variants deliver distinct operational sensations. Metal spring-loaded types provide uniform actuation force and precise travel, while thermally bonded dome switches offer extended longevity and refined tactile response.

Aesthetically pleasing appearance: LED membrane switches can be produced with diverse patterns and designs through modern screen printing techniques, presenting an elegant appearance that meets the aesthetic requirements of various products.

‌Rich functionality: Beyond basic switching functions, LED membrane switches can integrate indicator light capabilities. The illumination or deactivation of LED lights indicates device status, providing intuitive operational feedback.

Backlit Membrane Switches

Adding backlighting to membrane switches significantly enhances operational experience in night-time or dimly lit environments.

LED Solution: Surface-mounted LEDs are directly embedded within the switch circuit layer. Advantages include high brightness, extended lifespan, rich colour options, and the ability to achieve zoned illumination. Disadvantages may include localised light spots, necessitating the use of a light guide film.

LGF (Light Guide Film) Solution: Building upon the LED solution, a precision-engineered light guide film is added to uniformly diffuse point light sources across the entire illumination area. Advantages include even light distribution and ultra-thin profile. This is currently the mainstream choice for mid-to-high-end products.

EL (Electroluminescent) Solution: EL cold cathode films inherently function as area light sources, emitting exceptionally uniform and soft illumination with low power consumption. Disadvantages include the requirement for dedicated drivers and a half-life, where brightness gradually diminishes over time.
